Question: Why does ACS offer this service? What group of users
does this service target?
Answer: ACS developed this service for medium to power users.
We have limited staff available for technical support issues.
However, we wanted a local company with low overhead to be
able to offer a dialup service - something that seems to be
fading away into the sunset more than being supported.
In 2007, Bellsouth, recently acquired by AT&T, raised it's
dialup service rates. Customers who were paying $9.99 a month
were raised to $15.95 and customers who were paying $15.95 saw
rate increases to $22.95. All new signups for
Bellsouth's dialup service will be $22.95 [Source:
Pc World ]. Bellsouth did this - knowing many of
it's customers still did not qualify for DSL.
ACS has recognized the fact Cable and DSL providers tend to
only target populated areas - they do not seem to be
interested in providing service to sparsely populated areas at
all. That irritates us greatly, and thus Advanced
Computer and a company ACS staff members have substantial
interest in, Cyber Broadband, focus primarily on rural areas.
